Sept. 19 FIT PARTY!

Celebrate the End of Summer by joining us for some fun and food at the Quail Ridge Taos on Friday September 19 from 4-8pm. The pool will be open, there will be a BBQ, t-shirts and raffle tickets will be available. We will draw the winning raffle tickets at 7:30pm! This event is open to all FIT campers, Team F.I.Taos members, their families, and all FIT supporters. See you there!

Our popular environmental education Summer Camp Sessions are currently full. Please go to Summer Programs and click on Schedule for programs, dates, and cost. Feel free to download a registration form and send it in WITHOUT a deposit to get on a waiting list. This will also get you on our mailing list for future programs. After-School Mountain Biking Wraps Up!

We had a great time riding with 26 enthusiastic and entertaining youth (ages 8-16) after school throughout the month of May. We had some wind and rain but that only made it more exciting! The older group (13 and up) covered some serious mileage while keeping us laughing the entire time. We even got some rides in on some great trails in the Angel Fire area. The younger group made some huge progress in skills development as well as endurance on the bike. The awards were given out on the final day...we’ll miss riding with these groups!

Team F.I.Taos is up and riding!

Check out our blog at teamfitaos.blogspot.com In 2007, our first season ever, Team F.I.Taos brought home 5 individual New Mexico State Championship titles, secured a bronze medal at the U.S. Masters Track Nationals, placed 3 racers on the overall series podium at the Regional Mountain States Cup Championship Series, and had multiple podium appearances throughout the summer. We had racers wearing the bright green and orange Team jerseys in over 40 different events across the United States. Most importantly, we got families, juniors, and individuals excited about riding and racing as part of a great local team. The 2007 team was comprised of 65 Taos area youth and adults, ranging from beginner to professional. We trained and competed in a wide variety of cycling disciplines including mountain bike, road, cyclocross and track racing. Team F.I.Taos was started as a way to help promote cycling in the Taos area and to help develop the abilities of athletes that make Taos their home. The vision of an inclusive all ages, all abilities, all disciplines team was a lofty one that was reached with families and individuals taking part throughout the summer in weekly training rides as well as traveling to races. This team was visible, professional, and enthusiastic and really made an impression in the region with 15-25 racers at several events in both NM and CO. In 2008, our Team roster is up above 85 riders! We are hosting grassroots events including Hill Climb Time Trials and Short Track XC Races. We have consistent Tuesday Evening Team Road Rides and Wednesday Evening Family Mountain Bike Rides. Thank you to our sponsors! Taos Cyclery, Taos Lending Team, Boot Doctors, Gearing Up Bicycle Shop, Taos Cow, Full Moon Development Company, Taos Ski Valley, Inc., N+1, Sunrise Spinners, Taos Veterinary Clinic, Los Rios River Runners, Angel Fire Family Dentistry, Taos Cycle Club, Sapphire Physical Therapy, Northside Health and Fitness Center, and Pizanos. Weekly Team Family Rides (focusing on the Juniors) met on Wednesday evenings throughout the summer (at a different trailhead each week). The rides were about 1.5 hours with 20-25 riders showing up consistently. We received some great publicity for the Team in New Mexico Kids and Mountain Flyer Magazines, and in the Taos News as well as an interview on KRZA! We look forward to a great year in 2008.
